While conducting research on superstitions in a housing complex on Chicago's Near North Side, grad student Helen Lyle befriends Anne-Marie McCoy. Helen learns the story of the Candyman, an urban myth who wields a hook for a hand and breath that smells like honey. When Helen starts to get blamed for a wave of violence, she realizes the myth might just be true.
