April is our month of movies that are just weird or different enough not to fit into some of the other themes we had assigned to each month. That being said, we start the month off with Dead Ringers and The Last Temptation of Christ. Both a little controversial. Both created by visionary directors. Both a little unsettling.

The 80s love-fest is here! Ready Player One from Ernest Cline has been adapted into a movie and by some miracle of licensing, they've been able to include a ridiculous amount of 80s pop culture goodness. Grab your Viewmaster, put on some Rush, and get the Pop Rocks ready...

Wednesday Mar 21, 2018
Wednesday Mar 21, 2018
One of our movies this week is full of magic and wonder. Swords and sorcery. The other one is a bit more murder-y. We explore the adventurous world of Willow alongside the dark streets of Chicago being haunted by a possessed doll: Willow & Child's Play.

Episode #177: "Batman '88" | The Killing Joke & A Death in the Family (1988)
Wednesday Mar 14, 2018
Wednesday Mar 14, 2018
In 1986, Frank Miller introduced us to a dark and gritty Batman who's pulling a Murtaugh and definitely getting too old for this #@&% in The Dark Knight Returns. In 1987, Frank Miller jumped back and showed us Bruce Wayne's formative first year as the Batman in Batman: Year One. In 1988, Alan Moore, Jim Starlin, Brian Bolland, and Jim Aparo decided to beat the crap (literally) out of the Bat family by crippling Batgirl and killing Robin. This episode we take a look at two of the most influential Batman stories of all time: The Killing Joke and A Death in the Family.

Episode #176: “Big Twins” | Twins & Big (1988)
Wednesday Mar 07, 2018
Wednesday Mar 07, 2018
These movies are eerily similar. Danny DeVito feels like he’s looking into a mirror when he meets his twin brother Julius for the first time. Josh Baskin looks in the mirror and sees Tom Hanks. Both Arnold Schwarzenegger and Tom Hanks end up with the goofy “I kissed a girl and I liked it” grins on their faces. Whether you’re big or small, we think you’ll enjoy our two movies on tap this week: Twins and Big.

Episode #175: "Ich bin ein engel" | Wings of Desire (1988)
Wednesday Feb 28, 2018
Wednesday Feb 28, 2018
The divide between East and West is meaningless when you're an angel. You can come and go, observing humanity throughout the course of eternity... until the day you decide you want to become one of them. This one is the classic German film of an angel who decides to give up eternity for a chance at love and humanity: Wings of Desire (Der Himmel über Berlin).

Episode #174: "I Want To Believe" | Casablanca (1942)
Wednesday Feb 21, 2018
Wednesday Feb 21, 2018
Victor Laszlo believes in freedom. Ilsa believes in Victor. Rick believed in his love for Ilsa. We wanted to believe that Rick and Ilsa didn't "get together" in that one scene because it just makes other conversations awkward later. Mostly, though, we want you to believe that the hype is real. Casablanca is one of the greatest movies ever made and we celebrate its 75th anniversary by taking a look back at this classic cinematic masterpiece.

I believe strikeouts are fascist. I believe she's got a mind for business and a bod for sin. I believe Solo will be fun, but Cloverfield Paradox was bad. I believe in three guys talking movies from the 80s in a podcast that lasts for a couple of hours. I believe we're talking about Bull Durham and Working Girl.
