Episode #130: "But Do I Look Good?" | Less Than Zero (1987)
Wednesday May 10, 2017
Wednesday May 10, 2017
Most of our 80s movies have been the nostalgia-filled romps through the sporting world, fantasy adventures, time traveling teens, or the high school hangups of John Hughes... this episode we take a turn into a dark corner of the 80s with Less Than Zero. Based on the novel of the same name by Bret Easton Ellis (writer of American Psycho), this film follows three friends during the winter break after their high school graduation. Clay has gone east to attend an Ivy League school, leaving his girlfriend Blair and best friend Julian back in Los Angeles, where Blair is modeling and Julian has failed at being a record producer. To top it all off, Julian and Blair have fallen prey to the LA drug and party scene. When Clay comes back home for Christmas, he realizes that he might be the only one who can pull his friends out of this pit.

We've got Glass (the sequel to M. Night Shyamalan's Unbreakable), a little Indy 5, a few other movie news snippets... then Dennis finally gets to gush about his love for Lea Thompson in this movie (or did he really have a crush on Mary Stuart Masterson all along?) It's 1987's under-appreciated John Hughes' film — Some Kind of Wonderful.

John went to C2E2 in Chicago this last weekend and ended up on the WGN Evening News. We geek out over old-school He-Man cartoons, Captain Power and the Soldiers of the Future, and we open up a dimensional gateway to Eternia so we can talk about Masters of the Universe. And we have the best fantasy-cast for a He-Man reboot ever. We hope you enjoy... and "All Hail, King Lubic!"

Alvin, Simon, and Theodore along with the Chipettes embark on a race around the world to see who is the most globetrottingest of them. (Don't even try to look that one up, it's not a word.) Little do they know, they've been duped into smuggling diamonds and cash for Claudia and Klaus!
We also talk about the upcoming 2019 slate of Batman-related films, the passing of Don Rickles, the trailer for The Mummy and future Universal Monster remakes, and the outstanding new Thor: Ragnarok trailer.

Sunday Apr 02, 2017
Sunday Apr 02, 2017
In the debate over favorite James Bond actors, Timothy Dalton seems to get the short end of the stick, having only featured as 007 for two films. This time around, we try to explore why this 007 didn't last long and whether The Living Daylights deserves to be ranked among the weakest Bond movies.
